Parent Skills Training

When it comes to early childhood behavioral and emotional concerns, parents are often key agents of change. Parent training sessions involve teaching parents more effective ways to manage the various childhood problems that can impact a family, such as noncompliance, tantrums, anxiety, and avoidance. These caregiver-only sessions are tailored to each child and family’s needs and focus on concrete skills for improving family dynamics. I specialize in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an adaptation of PCIT for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM), Parent Management Training (PMT), and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE).

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is the gold standard intervention for children ages 2-7 with behavioral problems. This evidence-based intervention supports parents in learning how to manage their child’s noncompliance and emotion dysregulation through the use of live coaching of parent-child interactions. The goal of treatment is to strengthen the attachment relationship and learn new parenting strategies that increase compliance and improve emotion regulation in young children.

Individual Therapy for Parents: Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Beyond

The journey to and through parenting often contains bumps along the way, and therapy for parents can be a wonderful way to manage the ups and downs of this experience. Through my experience as a child psychologist, I offer a deeper understanding of what parents are going through as both parents and people. I also have specialized training in perinatal mental health to support women during pregnancy and postpartum, including those with postpartum anxiety and depression. Therapy for parents differs from parent training in that the focus of sessions is on parents’ own patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, rather than parenting-specific skills.

Individual Therapy for Adolescents and Adults

I offer individual therapy for anxiety, OCD, and depression in teens and adults. My goal is to foster a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment while also grounding sessions in evidence-based approaches (i.e., CBT, E/RP, and DBT-informed therapy). Sessions focus on identifying emotions and behaviors that lead to feeling stuck and learning to manage them more effectively. I aim to empower those I work with to face their fears, tolerate uncertainty and discomfort, and create meaningful change in order to live a life in line with their values.

What to expect

  • This is a 15-minute introductory phone call to hear about your concerns and explore whether we are a good fit. Before deciding to work together, I will ask you some questions about what you are looking for and also welcome any questions you may have about my approach and style. If we agree that we might be a good fit, we will discuss scheduling the intake consultation session. Once scheduled, I will send you new patient paperwork via a secure online system.

To schedule this brief call, please complete this form or see the contact information below to call or email.

  • The initial consultation session is typically a 90-minute appointment in which I will ask questions about your current symptoms and get a sense of the history of these and any related difficulties. We will also discuss goals for treatment, and if either of us determines after this initial meeting that we are not a good fit based on my expertise or style, I will provide you with recommendations for other providers.

  • Ongoing therapy sessions are typically 45-minutes and occur on a weekly basis, though longer or more frequent sessions are occasionally recommended. A weekly session time is agreed upon during the intake process but can be rescheduled if circumstances change. We will collaborate on treatment goals during the initial sessions and then check in on progress regularly.
